Barrientos Scholarship Foundation President Anthony Aguilera Shares His Top Five Favorites

MY FIVE: A series where we ask individuals to share their five favorite things

By Xitlally Velasco

Anthony Aguilera, a lifelong Omaha resident and president of the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation, is guided by faith, integrity, and purpose. Deeply rooted in his reverence for God, Aguilera is dedicated to empowering Latino students in Nebraska and cultivating future leaders who will make a meaningful impact on the community.

Committed to raising talented youth as ambassadors of positive change, Aguilera believes in the state-wide initiative of inspiring others to create a brighter future for Nebraska. Whether spending time with family, supporting scholars or collaborating with like-minded individuals, he views every moment as an opportunity to give back. With humility and gratitude, Aguilera strives to make a lasting difference in the lives of those he serves.

1. Reverence to God.

I seek to love God with all my heart, recognizing a need for dependence on His grace and wisdom. Without Him...I'm kind of a dodohead.

2. My Wife.

My wife is intelligent, funny, and beautiful. She loves the outdoors, art, colors, design, and our dogs, and she loves all the same food I love, with the exception of menudo.

3. My Immediate Family.

I have a smart and beautiful daughter, Olivia Paige Aguilera. She is fully grown and living with her fiancé' in a small town called McAdoo, Pennsylvania. I am also lucky to have both parents still with me here on earth and a sister who is two years older. My wife and I have two pups, Belle and Lucy, aka (little girl). They are like our children and provide tons of smiles and laughter.

4. My Golf Clubs.

I have been playing golf most of my life, and I absolutely love the game. It is the one sport that I thought I would be able to play in my later years without getting injured until recently. I was recently involved in an accident that will take much too long to tell here, but in short, I was run over by a runaway golf cart. Funny, not funny... OK, funny.

5. Supporting Scholarship and Career Pathways.

Supporting scholarship and career pathways through the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation is truly a privilege. Our community has incredible champions and role models who dedicate their time and resources to uplift our youth. It is deeply rewarding to play even a small part in helping students expand their educational opportunities and build strong career networks. Serving on the BSF board and supporting Nebraska's Latino youth is an honor that I hold with sincere gratitude
